How We Got Started

The Queen Alia Foundation for Hearing & Speech was established in 1978 in the memory of Her Majesty the late Queen Alia of Jordan.

Mrs. Hanan Hashem Toukan the mother of Her Majesty the late Queen Alia of Jordan undertook the establishment of the foundation along with a number of society ladies, Doctors, and specialists in the field of audiology and speech & language pathology.

The board of directors of the Queen Alia Foundation is headed by HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein. The foundation has been taking care of adults and children hearing impaired as well as those with speech and language difficulties. In order to ensure the best services, the foundation had taken upon itself to acquire the latest up to date equipment and specialized staff in audiology, speech and language pathology.

Our staff is constantly attending workshops, seminars, and courses offered in different countries in the world in order to achieve the highest available education offered in this field. Today, the foundation comprises a distinguished team highly experienced in audiology and speech and language pathology.

Aural Rehabilitation

In harmony with its humanitarian philosophy which promotes free services to all hearing impaired, the foundation has fulfilled distinguished achievements in a relatively short period of time since its establishment.

National hearing- screening program was conducted on large scale covering the Kingdom. During this program, hearing aids were distributed free of charge to needy children. The foundation follows up with periodic evaluation for the hearing impaired for both Pre School and school children in order to detect problems that might evolve and provide solutions in order to overcome any obstacles that might hinder their development and psychological and mental maturity and prevent them from leading a normal life among their peers.

The foundation works alongside the Ministry of Social Development and the National aid Fund providing hearing examination.

Acknowledging the importance of regular follow-ups the foundation has established a Mobile clinic unit to cover the Kingdom.

We are agents for Microson hearing aids. The Queen Alia Foundation for Hearing & Speech has fulfilled distinguished achievements in a relatively short period since its foundation in 1978. Besides the national hearing screening program which was conducted in the South and the North of the Kingdom, 50000 hearing tests were performed at the foundation during this period, 6000 hearing impaired were rehabilitated with hearing aids.

The Speech therapy department took care of 8000 cases suffering from speech and language disorders. In this period 89540 cases benefited from the diagnostic and rehabilitation services at the Queen Alia Foundation for Hearing & Speech.

Our foundation is proud to be one of the main training and practice bases for the students of Audiology & Speech and Language Pathology at several Jordanian universities and community colleges. In recognition of the role of the foundation as the best center offering services for the deaf in the Arab World we were awarded in 2007

Furthermore, the foundation has conducted several training courses for specialists working in this field at various places in Jordan and the Arab World.

Many courses were conducted for specialists working in the Ministry of Social Development centers.
